Editorial Policy
How our guides are researched, written, reviewed and corrected.
Principles
- One page per distinct question. We merge pages rather than publish near-duplicates.
- The direct answer comes first, then the explanation.
- Safety over completeness: we do not give instructions for electrical, structural, roofing or plumbing work that is unsafe for homeowners.
- No invented statistics, prices, reviews, credentials or local facts.
- Guidance is educational; it cannot replace an on-site inspection.
Research and sources
Technical claims are based on public guidance and building-science references, explained in our own words. Restoration-industry practices are described in general terms (for example, water categories and drying to a dry reference). Primary sources include:
- EPA: Mold and moisture guidance
- EPA: Lead (Renovation, Repair and Painting)
- EPA: Asbestos
- FEMA: Disaster recovery
- CDC: Mold
- OSHA: Construction safety
- NOAA National Weather Service
Local information
Local pages list the public sources their local facts come from. We add a location only when it has genuinely different information; see locations.
Review and dates
Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. Pages are re-reviewed when guidance changes or readers report an error.
Corrections
Found something wrong? Call us at (833) 502-3465. Substantive corrections are made promptly and the review date updated.
Commercial relationships
The site is supported by phone calls from homeowners who want professional help. That does not change what our guides recommend; many guides explain how to handle a problem without hiring anyone.
